BIS Principal's Newsletter 10th October 2017

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It is hard to believe that the term is passing so rapidly and that half term is a little over a fortnight away. Assessments are ongoing to determine effort and attainment grades over the first half of the term and these will be published formally on October 27th at the first parent teacher conference of the year.

Our first competitive sports fixtures of this academic year took place last weekend with AISEN football being played at Day Waterman College and Prodigy League basketball taking place on the mainland. All of our teams did well and it was a pleasure to present trophies and medals to our basketball players at our full school assembly this morning.

This week will be another busy one for BIS and we ask that you take careful note of the following:

UK and North American School Exhibitions

For those considering study overseas after IGCSE the following two exhibitions will be of interest:

On Thursday of this week (12th October) a dozen schools will be represented at BIS for a UK and North American education exhibition. This will take place in the Library at 2.45 pm.

On Friday of this week (13th October) fourteen UK boarding schools will be represented through the UK based agency Mark Brooks Education. Again, this will take place in the Library at 2.45 pm.

Last week we were delighted to meet with Mr Robb, Headmaster of Gresham's School in Norfolk. He brought with him best wishes from Mrs Arole, our former registrar, who now works as admissions officer for Gresham's.

 Open Day

We will be holding our open day for prospective families wishing to join BIS in September 2018. The event will take place on Saturday 21st October between 10.00 am and 1.30 pm. Welcome speeches will take place at 10.00 am and 11.30 am and student guides will escort families around the campus in small groups. Please let your friends know of this event if they are looking for September 2018 admission.

 Scholarship Entrance Examinations

In a new departure BIS is offering the first entrance examination day on Saturday 25th November. More details will follow, but candidates wishing to be considered for the annual open scholarship will only be offered this opportunity on this particular day. Other examination sessions will take place in January and March 2018. Details and forms are available from the Registrar.

Mr Carlo Cecchi, Head of Physical Education

We are delighted to announce that Mr Carlo has arrived in Lagos and is settling in very rapidly to both the school and the city. He has already made a huge impact on the BIS community and is set to take the school to greater sporting heights, building on the sporting successes of last year.

With best wishes for a pleasant week ahead.

Yours sincerely,

Howard Bullock.
