BIS Principal's Newsletter 20th June 2017

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It is not long now until we reach the end of the current academic year. Last Saturday our Year 11 leavers held their leavers' ball at the Oriental Hotel. It was a very pleasant evening and gave a final opportunity to wish our leavers well as they move to the next stage of their careers.

Tomorrow we look forward to welcoming our new Vice Principal, Mr Stewart King, to BIS for a three day familiarisation visit. He will be moving out here towards the end of August to prepare for the new academic session.

A lot of things are happening in school as we approach the end of the session, not least the promotional examinations which our students are sitting this week. Please note that full attendance is vital next week as they will not only go through their papers and analyse their performance, but also complete necessary coursework as part of their final assessment.

We ask you to take careful note of the following items:

Memorial to Mr Baker

Robert Baker was a long serving Vice Principal at BIS who sadly passed away in 2015. We wish to commemorate him with a memorial plaque in New Horizons and I am writing to invite all members of the school community, students, former students, parents and staff to attend a brief memorial gathering at which Rob will be remembered and the plaque unveiled. We would very much like to see you there. The ceremony will take place on Tuesday 4th July at 3.30 pm in New Horizons with refreshments afterwards in the Library.

Eid Holiday

We are awaiting the declaration of a public holiday in respect of the forthcoming Eid. Please note that the school will close on whichever days are declared to be holidays and reopen immediately thereafter.

End of Year Sporting Triumphs

This year has been remarkable in terms of success in all manner of different sports. For the first time we took part in an AISEN Badminton competition on June 10th. We are very proud to announce that we came first out of five schools in attendance, an amazing achievement given that this was the first time in the school's history that we have fielded a Badminton team.

On 13th June we hosted Lead Forte Gate College at BIS to compete in girls' basketball, handball and football. The final scores were as follows:

Basketball                           BIS: 24                                   Lead Forte Gate: 4

Handball                              BIS: 18                                   Lead Forte Gate: 8

Football                                BIS: 8                                     Lead Forte Gate: 1

Prize Giving

We ask you to take note that our end of year prize giving for students in Years 7-10 will be held on Thursday 6th July at 11.45 am in New Horizons. All students will be free to leave school after the ceremony which will end by 1.15 pm.

End of Year Parent Teacher Conference

Please note that this important event will take place on Friday 7th July from 8.00 am until 12.00 pm. End of term results and reports will be issued at this meeting. All students attending must do so in full school uniform.

A polite reminder that all outstanding fees for this year should be remitted as soon as possible.

Yours sincerely,

 Howard Bullock.
